SOURCES OF INFORMATION
Banksy Explained is built on public research. This page names what we read, watch and rely on — Banksy's own outlets first, then the independent sites that have documented his work for two decades. Where a description or a photograph comes from someone else, it is credited.
A note before the list
Some of the information shared on Banksy Explained may not be one hundred per cent accurate. We take the time to research thoroughly and to be as accurate as anyone can be working from online sources, but this remains a work in progress and we know a great deal is still missing.
We try to give sources and credits for everything we found and found interesting. If you feel a credit is missing or inaccurate, write to us and we will amend it gladly.

Official Banksy outlets
These are the only channels Banksy controls. Everything else on this page, including this site, is independent commentary.
Banksy publishes most of his output and projects on Instagram and on his website. It is where anyone can check whether the mural discovered yesterday is really his. He is on Instagram only — not Facebook, not X, not any other platform.

Banksy also posts new murals and artworks, projects, and his own reaction to events, on his own website.
Blog
A more recent outlet that appears to be official, giving historical background on various projects. Visibly an ongoing project — it also lists some of what it intends to publish.
YouTube
Banksy's own channel, where the films and project videos are posted.

An extraordinary source for understanding Banksy's work in context, founded by a collector who has, in his own words, “developed some kind of obsession.”
I can only speak for myself, but I think it has to do with the rich and multilayered narrative he has created, which is expressed in almost all available techniques and formats. His art is perceived as both provocative and understandable by a broad public. We don't have to be intellectuals or art snobs to enjoy his art.
Art of the State
Another admirable blog — not dedicated to Banksy but to street art in general, with remarkable content going back to the early 2000s.

A long-running community forum where collectors and enthusiasts discuss prints, editions and attributions.
News outlets that follow the work closely
Banksy is commented on by media across the world. A few have followed him for years and have done remarkable work documenting his murals in particular. They are worth reading for Banksy, and for other artists too.

A number of descriptive texts used on Banksy Explained were provided by MyArtBroker. Photographs and images remain the property of their respective rights holders; where a photographer or outlet is known, the credit appears with the image.
