Created during Banksy’s 2008 New Orleans intervention, Child with Kite Fridge depicts a young boy flying a kite beside an abandoned refrigerator. Banksy incorporates the discarded appliance directly into the composition, using the physical debris of the city rather than treating the wall as a neutral surface. The child’s simple act of play contrasts with the damaged and neglected environment surrounding him.

The refrigerator carries particular resonance in post-Katrina New Orleans, where ruined household appliances became a familiar sight as residents cleared flooded homes and neighborhoods struggled through a prolonged reconstruction. By placing the child beside this remnant of domestic life, Banksy brings together childhood resilience and the material aftermath of disaster without depicting the hurricane itself.

As with several works from the New Orleans campaign, the meaning depends upon its precise location and physical surroundings.
