The auction history of Laugh Now unsigned follows the broader cycle of Banksy’s print market: rapid expansion during 2020, elevated trading through 2021 and 2022, followed by a substantial correction and an emerging period of stabilization. With 51 qualifying transactions recorded since 2018, the edition remains comparatively liquid and provides a meaningful measure of collector sentiment toward one of Banksy’s most recognizable images.
Prices accelerated dramatically during the second half of 2020 as online bidding, abundant liquidity and speculative demand transformed the market for Banksy editions. The auction record was established at Phillips Hong Kong in December 2020, when an unsigned impression achieved £84,810. Several additional sales during the period approached or exceeded £70,000, demonstrating that the expansion was not limited to a single exceptional result.
The correction became increasingly visible from 2022 onward, with values compressing sharply through 2023 and returning to a much narrower range during 2024 and 2025. Recent figures now provide tentative evidence of stabilization. The median price increased from £18,000 in 2025 to £19,260 across seven qualifying sales in 2026, representing growth of 7%. The relatively high number of transactions in 2026 also confirms that liquidity remains healthy at the current valuation level.
The most recent sale, at Forum Auctions in July 2026, achieved £19,664—approximately 23% of the historical peak. Although this illustrates the severity of the post-boom correction, the 2020 record was produced under exceptional market conditions and is no longer a realistic benchmark. More important is the consistency of recent trading: Laugh Now unsigned appears to have entered a more disciplined, collector-driven market while retaining the appeal of one of Banksy’s defining early motifs.
Laugh Now (signed)
The signed edition of Laugh Now occupies a more selective and valuable segment of Banksy’s print market. Produced in an edition of 150, it is considerably scarcer than the 600 unsigned impressions. Twenty qualifying transactions have been recorded since 2018, providing greater market visibility than many of Banksy’s other signed editions while still leaving annual figures sensitive to the characteristics of individual lots.
The signed market experienced its strongest expansion during 2020 and 2021. Prices moved decisively into six-figure territory as collectors competed for signed examples of one of Banksy’s most historically important compositions. The auction record was established at Bonhams London in February 2021, when an impression achieved £200,250. Several other results around or above £100,000 confirmed the breadth of demand during the peak rather than suggesting a purely isolated bidding anomaly.
Values normalized progressively after 2021. A signed impression sold for £100,240 in 2022, while qualifying results in 2023 ranged from £61,640 to £76,200. Three sales in 2024 produced a comparatively concentrated range between £50,400 and £60,000. Only one qualifying transaction was recorded in 2025—the £47,500 achieved at Tate Ward Auctions in December—and no sale has yet been recorded in 2026, preventing the publication of a meaningful current median.
The latest result represents approximately 24% of the historical peak and places the edition close to the upper end of its pre-pandemic range. Nevertheless, the signed edition has retained a substantial premium over its unsigned counterpart and continues to attract collectors seeking scarcity, signature and blue-chip status within Banksy’s print market. Its recovery cannot yet be confirmed without additional transactions, but the concentration of recent results suggests an increasingly rational market rather than continued uncontrolled decline.
