The decisive acceleration began in 2020 and culminated during the exceptional market conditions of 2021. Prices rose across the edition rather than through one isolated bidding battle, with numerous impressions achieving six-figure results. The auction record was established at Sotheby’s online in March 2021, when an unsigned example sold for £214,200. This result confirmed the extraordinary appeal of the image, but it belongs to an overheated period and should be considered a peak-cycle event rather than a sustainable benchmark.
The correction began in 2022 and continued through 2023 as the speculative premium progressively disappeared. Following an absence of qualifying transactions in 2024, the edition returned to auction with eight sales in 2025 and three further results in 2026. The median increased modestly from £23,985 in 2025 to £24,510 in 2026, representing growth of 2% and suggesting that prices may now be consolidating after several years of decline.
The most recent sale, at Phillips London in June 2026, achieved £24,510—approximately 11% of the historical peak. While this figure illustrates the scale of the correction, the record itself was produced under extraordinary market conditions and no longer represents the edition’s underlying value. More significant is the consistency of recent results: Love Is in the Air remains one of Banksy’s most liquid, culturally important and immediately recognizable unsigned prints.

The signed edition occupies the highest echelon of Banksy’s print market. Only 50 impressions from the numbered edition of 500 were signed, creating a degree of scarcity that distinguishes it sharply from the unsigned version. Just nine qualifying transactions have been recorded since 2018, meaning that individual results—and therefore annual medians—can be strongly influenced by condition, provenance, presentation and the intensity of competition on the day.
The signed market underwent an extraordinary transformation during 2020 and 2021. As collectors increasingly regarded the Flower Thrower not merely as a desirable Banksy print but as a defining image of contemporary political culture, prices reached unprecedented levels. The auction record was established at Christie’s online in April 2021, when a standard signed impression achieved £475,000. Artist’s proofs also produced exceptional results during this period, although these rarer examples should be analyzed separately.
The correction became increasingly visible from 2022 onward. The median price declined from £114,700 in 2023 to £73,225 in 2024, representing a fall of 36%. The most recent qualifying transaction occurred at Bonhams London in December 2024, where impression 43/500 sold for £63,900. With no qualifying sales recorded in either 2025 or 2026, there is not yet sufficient evidence to determine whether the signed market has reached a stable floor.
The latest result represents approximately 13% of the historical peak, illustrating the exceptional scale of the post-boom repricing. Nevertheless, the scarcity of the signed edition makes direct comparisons with the more frequently traded unsigned version inherently imperfect. The market is now thinner, more selective and considerably removed from the exuberance of 2021, but the edition’s fundamental strengths remain intact: rarity, historical importance and an image whose cultural recognition extends far beyond Banksy’s traditional collector base.
