Auction Market Overview
Pulp Fiction (unsigned)
Pulp Fiction is one of Banksy’s most immediately recognizable early prints, translating the iconic suited gunmen from Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 film into the artist’s own irreverent visual language by replacing their weapons with bananas. Released in 2004 as an unsigned edition of 600, the print combines cinematic familiarity, anti-violence satire and the sharp visual economy that defined Banksy’s early print practice. Its broad cultural appeal has made it one of the more liquid unsigned editions in the market, while its auction history provides a particularly clear record of the expansion, excess and subsequent normalization of Banksy prices since 2018.
With 65 verified auction results between 2018 and July 2026, Pulp Fiction (unsigned) ranks among the most actively traded Banksy editions, providing a particularly reliable picture of collector demand and long-term market performance. Inspired by Quentin Tarantino’s cult film, the print has become one of Banksy’s most recognizable images, combining cinematic nostalgia with his signature anti-authoritarian humor. Its healthy trading volume and global appeal have established it as one of the cornerstones of the unsigned Banksy market.
Prior to the explosive growth of the Banksy market, Pulp Fiction (unsigned) traded within a relatively modest price range of GBP 10,000 to GBP 30,000, with most sales occurring between GBP 15,000 and GBP 20,000. Although already highly sought after by collectors, the print remained relatively accessible compared to Banksy’s rarer editions. Liquidity was steady, demonstrating that the work had already established a loyal collector base before the market entered its extraordinary expansion.
Like the broader Banksy market, Pulp Fiction (unsigned) experienced an exceptional surge during the pandemic. Prices more than tripled within months as unprecedented demand met a rapidly shrinking supply. Auction records were repeatedly broken throughout 2020 and 2021, culminating in a record price of GBP 94,040 at Forum Auctions in June 2021. This dramatic appreciation reflected not only speculative enthusiasm but also the growing international recognition of Banksy as one of the most important contemporary printmakers of his generation.
Following the speculative highs of 2021, the market entered a healthy period of correction. Prices gradually retreated into the GBP 40,000 – GBP 60,000 range during 2022 before continuing to normalize throughout 2023. Unlike a market collapse, this phase represented a return to more sustainable valuation levels as speculative buyers exited and long-term collectors once again became the dominant participants. Importantly, auction activity remained robust, confirming that demand for the print had not disappeared despite lower prices.
Since 2024, Pulp Fiction has established a more balanced trading range, with the majority of sales occurring between GBP 20,000 and GBP 30,000, although exceptional examples continue to command significant premiums. The strong Christie’s result of GBP 40,320 in April 2025 illustrates that condition, provenance and timing remain key drivers of value. With numerous transactions recorded each year across major international auction houses, the print continues to benefit from excellent liquidity and widespread collector interest, making it one of the healthiest markets among Banksy’s unsigned editions.

The evolution of Pulp Fiction (unsigned) closely mirrors the broader trajectory of the Banksy print market: a stable pre-pandemic period, an unprecedented speculative boom, a necessary correction, and finally the emergence of a more mature and sustainable market. While current prices remain well below the extraordinary peaks of 2021, they are still substantially higher than pre-pandemic levels, demonstrating the print’s enduring desirability. Supported by consistently high trading volumes and global demand, Pulp Fiction (unsigned) remains one of the strongest and most liquid unsigned Banksy editions, offering collectors an iconic image with proven long-term market resilience.
Pulp Fiction (signed)
With only 13 verified auction results between 2018 and 2025, the market for the signed edition of Pulp Fiction is considerably less liquid than its unsigned counterpart. Nevertheless, these relatively few transactions provide a clear picture of a highly sought-after print whose rarity continues to support a substantial valuation premium. With an edition of only 150 signed impressions, compared to 600 unsigned, supply remains extremely limited, and examples appear at auction only sporadically.
The market experienced a spectacular appreciation during the pandemic boom. After selling between GBP 24,000 and GBP 44,000 in 2018 and 2019, prices accelerated dramatically throughout 2020 and reached their historic peak in early 2021, when a signed example achieved GBP 164,820 at Forum Auctions. Several additional sales above GBP 100,000 during 2020–2022 confirmed that demand for the signed edition had become truly international, supported by strong performances in London, New York and, increasingly, major American auction houses.
Like the broader Banksy market, Pulp Fiction (Signed) subsequently entered a period of correction. Values softened from the extraordinary highs of 2021–2022, with results settling at GBP 88,500 in 2023 and GBP 57,725 in 2025. While this represents a significant decline from the speculative peak, it should not be interpreted as a collapse. Rather, it reflects the normalization observed across virtually every major Banksy edition following the unprecedented market expansion during the pandemic. Importantly, current prices remain well above pre-2020 levels, demonstrating that much of the long-term appreciation has been retained.
Scarcity remains the defining characteristic of this market. With barely more than one auction appearance per year on average, individual sales can have a disproportionate influence on short-term pricing. Condition, provenance and auction timing therefore play an even greater role than they do for the unsigned edition. As a consequence, collectors should avoid drawing conclusions from a single transaction and instead consider the broader trajectory of the market over several years.
Compared with the unsigned edition, the signed version commands a premium of approximately 2.5 to 3 times current market value, broadly consistent with many of Banksy’s most iconic print editions. Although the price gap narrowed during the post-2021 correction, the signed edition continues to benefit from its far greater scarcity and stronger appeal among established collectors seeking the most desirable examples within Banksy’s print catalogue.
Overall, Pulp Fiction (Signed) remains one of the strongest signed editions from Banksy’s early print production. Its combination of iconic imagery, limited supply and consistently high collector demand has enabled it to preserve substantial long-term value despite recent market normalization. While liquidity is naturally lower than for the unsigned edition, each appearance at auction remains a noteworthy event, reinforcing its status as one of the key signed prints within the Banksy market.
